DAY 2 – Food Budget ChallengeΒ

DAY 2 – 13 November 2017

It is now day 2 and I’m shopping. I went to wet market to buy my fish and chicken.

3kg of chicken for IDR98K – $7.23 and 3 kg of fish for IDR78K – $5.75

Not gonna show you what’s inside though. They’re pretty gross 😷

I usually buy my produce from a street shop near the kid’s school but today I went with my guts to buy at the wet market.

And I was making a good decision coz I only paid IDR63K – $4.65 for all of those produce. If I bought from the street shop, I know I would’ve spent at least $10. Crazy what this hard situation teach you. It teaches you to go beyond your comfort zone. To push you to do the extraordinary.

I know that I don’t have anymore budget for fruit but I have to stock on fruits coz my kids need fruits. So I bought a papaya for IDR15K – $1.11.

And my rice box is empty πŸ˜₯ I thought I could’ve more money to spend on something else but then I need to stock on rice. Indonesian don’t eat without rice. So ya, I bought 10kg of rice and I have an amazing aunt that give me an extra 10kg for free. Thank you aunty… God bless you πŸ˜‡

10kg will feed us for about a week and thanks to aunty we will have enough supply for about 2 weeks ✌ And the rice will stretch for more days coz my cousin just gave us dog food. My dog also eat rice but since now we have dog food. We will have enough supply of rice 😁. I’m so grateful for families that always support and help me in hard times.

Today I fry fish and make spinach soup with corn.

I only have enough fish for hub and the kids. I don’t normally eat the fish or the chicken. If I’m lucky, the kids will have some leftovers for me. They usually still have something left for me to eat. Or I’ll just eat rice and whatever veggies I cook that day.

Well… This is for today. We’ll see what I cook tomorrow. I’m thinking of buying eggs with the money left in the budget.

What to budget when you hardly have an income?

It’s my question for so long. Years.

When we’re making money, budgeting was out of mind out of sight. When we’re broke, I wanted to start budgeting. Well, I always wanted to start budgeting and always failed.

Now, what to budget when I hardly have an income? Hmmm…

When you make so little money, suddenly those bills are so painful. When you make so little money, those little money just went by and then what’s the point of budgeting?

I’ve tried envelopes cash system. I’ve tried no spend week. I’ve tried budgeting for tithing and savings. I’ve tried following Dave Ramsey baby steps. I’ve tried cutting here and there. I’ve tried many tries with very little money. And it’s haaaaaaaaaaaaaard!

I don’t know when my paycheck is coming in. I don’t know the amount of it when it’s eventually coming in. And when it comes, my bills are all overdue and my fridge is empty. So when it’s payday, it’s also paying day. On top of it, things happen and suddenly everything seems to be broken and needed to be fixed.

Some months I’m able to budget for tithing but it’ll end up with buying food. Some months I’m able to save but not for long coz something needs some extra money. Some months I don’t even have any money left to budget for food.

What’s the point of budgeting???

Well… I know I have very little money to work on and it’s a headache to work with. But with budgeting I am the boss. I tell my money where to go. I write down every bills I have to pay (again all overdue, well at least I paid), I pay the most urgent bills (the kids school tuition) and electricity. And I work with the leftovers, of course for food. My kids need to eat. Everything else comes later.

Later means I have to work my ass off to earn some extra money. Literally forcing my brain and body to work extra.

So, little money or big money, you need to budget. Write down everything. I use paper and excel on my phone. Try your best to post everything in the budget. Pay your priority bills and food, the minimum. Everything else, work harder. Do your part and God will provide.

A Good Tips For Living The Way You Want!

Your vibes attract your tribes! A very good tips for living the way you want is stick with your tribes.

If you want to live frugally, have frugal people in your tribes. You can’t follow high living standard people who goes to mall and shops all day everyday in their life without you feeling terrible for not having the money you have to live like them.

If you want to be financially smart and living towards debt free goals, stick with people who also trying to have a good handle of money whether they have loads of money or very limited fund. Money is money. They need to be told where to go. Not the other way around.

If you want to stay motivated with keeping your house organized, stick with people who have the passion for organization. Find some inspiration and motivation from them. There’s nothing wrong in learning from other people and adapt it to your life.

If you’re a stay at home mom and feeling overwhelmed by the kids and the house chores which seems to be endless, stick with people who are in the same situation with you. Who tries to do the best with what they do in their family.

If you want to nurture your faith, stick with people who is trying to build the habit of gratitude and joy in the Lord.

Lucky we’re living in the world of social media. You can choose your tribes. Choose what you see, listen, learn from, coz life is about choices. Follow them on Instagram, subscribe to their YouTube channels, etc.

I myself have a long list of frugal, Christian, organized, sahm, wahm, people in my YouTube and Instagram account. I surrounded myself with the same passion and love in what we’re doing. We inspires and motivates each others even though we don’t really know each others in person. That’s the beauty of internet.

Be the best person you can be, for you and your family, with the help of your internet friends. Coz you know what… Your real friends can be the worst version of who you’re turning into.

I’m not saying that our real friends are bad, but really, if we really truthful to ourselves, they can have the exact opposite to what we’re trying to achieve in life. And we don’t get rid of them, we don’t coz they’re our friends. We love them despite of how different we all are.

They have a different lifestyle, different financial condition, different marriage to ours, different ways of parenting, etc. We’ll still be friends, but we need to get the support we need to achieve our own priorities. This is where the internet comes in.

Some people asked me, how am I getting this foreigners as my followers? 99% of my followers on Instagram and blog are from America. Don’t Indonesian notices my Instagram and blog? They do.

But…

Indonesian and American are raised in a very opposite way of thinking. How so? Well… I have written so many points about answering that question, but I decided to edit them. Why? Because, back to the statement above… We are raised in a different mindset and my writings can be a whole lot of hate viral discussion πŸ˜ͺ

So, let’s just keep it this way… My way of thinking is unlike most Indonesian and more likely leaning towards American. Maybe that’s why I prefer to follow and subscribe to American rather than Indonesian, and maybe that’s why I have more American followers than Indonesian.

Life is beautiful when you choose the beautiful side of it. Yes it won’t be a perfect happy ever after kinda life. But if you make the right decision towards what you’re going to do with your life, see the beauty of it, always remind yourself to be grateful, surround yourself with the same vibes of tribes, life would be joyful.

Teenager In The World Of Technology

This app is what I use to compromise with my teenage boy. He’s 12yo and (still) not allowed to have his own phone but he needs to ‘keep up’ with friends.

I totally understand. I’m old school and I don’t see the necessities of my boy having a phone. I send and pick him up to wherever and whatever activities he have, so he doesn’t need a phone.

He said he wanted an Instagram, I made him one. He said he wanted a WhatsApp, first he was using my account to connect with his friends, and I get that he was mocked at school for chatting using mom’s account. So, I seek for solutions, a win win solutions.

I found this app that allows me to have multiple accounts in one phone. Great!!! So now he has his own WhatsApp under his own name, joining groups, chatting with friends, in my control.

Call me overprotective, but man, teens will shocked you with what they chat about. Shocked! Language wise and content wise.

By having control over my boy’s social networking, I get to know his friends and matters he doesn’t share with me. I can directly guide him and teach him on adulting, by controlling his social networking.

Living in a world of Hi-Tech environment can either benefit your children or can be destroying. It’s our responsibility to teach them how to be a responsible adult, starting from their teens age.

For now I only use it for WhatsApp and Instagram, so have no further comment on other apps. But so far so good. Everybody is happy πŸ‘Œ

How to end your day – Evening routines – Clean kitchen

I always end my day with a clean kitchen. I wash my stove top, literally wash it with soap and sponge, getting rid of those sticky oil and splash.

Wash all the dishes. Wash my sink. Wipe clean the fridge with vinegar spray. Wipe clean the dining table and chairs with vinegar spray. Wipe clean the countertop, cabinets (top and bottom), and microwave with vinegar spray. And I sweep the floor.

Everybody in the house seems to no longer mind with the smell of vinegar, coz it really help my kitchen clean and fresh. I have an open kitchen, so flies/cockroaches/rats are easily attracted to it, but thanks to my vinegar spray, I have no problem with them at all.

I make sure tomorrow morning, when I need to prep the boys for school, I don’t get irritated by the messiness of the kitchen. I need to start the day in a right way or I’ll be a nagging old lady the whole day.

What is your evening routines?

Mom’s Essential For A Clean House

I’m back!!!

It’s been a while ( a very long while) since my last post.

I was, for a moment, lost myself. Too busy with my problems that I kinda forgetting about myself, what I am, and who I want to be. Life does that to you sometimes.

But now I’m back! The problems still there, but I’m not gonna let it consume me. I got up late this morning, an hour late, but it didn’t stop me from having a new spirit. I felt energized, joy, happy, motivated.

I accomplished a lot today. Being very productive. And here I am at 12.45am creating free printable of my cleaning routine, so you can download and print for yourself, and maybe can motivate you or even implemented it.

This is the kind of cleaning routine I try to implement in my life. I said try, because just like some of you, I’m still learning. This routine can be different in any of you. But if it can inspire and motivate you to create a routine in your busy life, it would be a great help. I know how we (moms) need as much support as we can have, to do our best for our family, and I want you to know… I’m here doing it together with you.

I’m not perfect. I don’t always do this. I skipped a lot of zone cleaning coz I’m so busy with the kids and my business. But if I have this printed and have it somewhere I can see (I’m a visual person, I need to visually see or it will skip my crowded brain), I’m reminded that I still have something to do and I can make time to do it.

You know what… It’s all in the mind. If your mind is telling you that it needs to be done to make your life a lot better, then you’re gonna do it without any more excuses. Trust me… I’ve made too many excuses. I’m done with excuses.

For so long, I only do my daily cleaning routine and skipped all of my other cleaning till I see them gross enough for me to even look at them. Then I’m gonna need more time to clean them since they’re too dirty, didn’t have any more time to do anything else. Such a waste of time.

It is the time for a change! And I want you to come along and join me. Let’s do this together!

Download and print here

You can print or use it as a guideline to make your own routine.

How are you doing your cleaning routine? Do you implement zone cleaning? Please comment below & tell me how you do it, coz I’d love to learn from you too.

Meal Prep #1

Hi…

Welcome back 😘

Hit the ‘follow’ button if you haven’t already 😘

Today I’m gonna share with you my first attempt to meal prepping. I always wanted to start eating healthy but I don’t have the support I needed, my hubby is not into it and also the kids and also my mom, they love salt and always say that my cooking is tasteless. I know at some point salt is needed by our body, but we get it from other food such as chips and others.

I’m 38 now, desperately need to control my eating. So, I’m determined to start. Been watching meal prep videos on YouTube and I was trying to do the exact same thing, such as containers and all, then I never start waiting for having this and that 😌

Then last night I’ve done it. Finally! Like getting it off my chest πŸ˜‚ I’m doing it differently with the same ideas. I cook several different food, keeping it separately, so I can mix match them instead of eating the same meal for the whole week.

Let’s get started so I can elaborate it more to you πŸ‘Œ

Coleslaw. I like all kinds of salad. I make this for snack or just add it to my meal.

Sauteed bok choy with a lot of garlic, love garlic 😁, and tomatoes (4 tomatoes).

I steam 1 kg of sweet potatoes.

Mashed potatoes without creamer. I just steamed it and mashed it with salt and pepper.

Brown rice. Cooked it in the rice cooker.

Chicken. I cut 500gr of boneless chicken breast into small cubes. Add a little of vegetable oil to the pan, add minced garlic (I don’t count, just a lot), add chicken, teriyaki sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, tomato sauce, pepper, a bit of water. All the sauces are just about a tablespoon. Cook it until the water is drying out. That’s all.

Steamed cauliflower and squash.

That’s it. That was all I was preparing. I could have mashed potatoes with chicken, cauliflower and coleslaw or brown rice with bok choy or anything I wanted. I can have a vegetarian menu also. Everyday will be a different meal πŸ˜‰

What do you think? I’m just a starter and will be experimenting here and there. But I think it’s a good start.

If you’re anything like me, try this one. Don’t wait until you have everything you wanted (usually for trying to do the same as others), start with what you have. And if you want varieties, do it like I did, so you can mix your meal as you wanted, instead of eating the same for the whole week, which can be a downer.

If you have any other ideas or suggestions, please comment below. I’d love to hear from you. And if you finally start your meal prepping, please tag me on Instagram.

Thank you and see you soon 😘

DIY Dehumidifier – Failed?

Hi…

Welcome back 😘

Hit the ‘follow’ button if you haven’t already 😘

I’ve been trying to try this hack. Been Googling, YouTube, and on Pinterest. Found some hacks and finally decided to try on this one.

Since I’ve moved to this house, I’ve been dealing with extreme humidity. In my room. Only. Especially in my walking closet. How? I don’t know πŸ™„

I’ve been finding my clothes and bags covered with fungus 😭 So I bought these dehumidifiers. All for my walking closet πŸ˜ͺ

Oh… I put one in the kid’s room, just to keep their room humid free. Even though they have no problem at all with humidity. You know… Moms do extraordinary things for their kids πŸ˜‰ *excuses excuses

As you can see, full of water in less than 3 months.

Now I’m gonna wash them all clean, without soap.

It’s now empty.

I’m using this block salts for cooking and I’m gonna use it now as a dehumidifier.

Mashed one block.

Pour into the container.

I pour in 4 blocks of salts into the containers and I addΒ activated charcoalΒ to all of them.

Put the lid on and done.

I’m gonna give you an update after a week and see if it works. You can try it now with me too and we informed each other. Sounds good? πŸ˜‰

Thank you for joining me 😘 I’ll see you next week with an update πŸ‘Œ

Thrifting – Clean With Me – Kitchen Aid Toaster

Hi…

Welcome back 😘

Hit the ‘follow’ button if you haven’t already 😘

A week ago I thrift a toaster. I’ve been wanting a toaster for a very long time. I love butter toast. With a lot of butter. Yum πŸ˜‹

So I bought this toaster from my cousin. In this condition πŸ˜…

Such a dishonor to the toaster right πŸ˜‚ I am determined to clean it as if it’s new. I used vacuum and butter brush to clean the burner. And I used damp cloth with baking soda to clean the grease. Then I finished with cleaning all the surface with my vinegar water spray.

The finish product…

Shine and clean as new 😍

You don’t have to spend a lot to get what you need. Thrifting can save you tons of money. Make sure that its in a good condition and works (for electrical products). Clean them thoroughly, make them shine as new, you wouldn’t even remember that you thrift 😍

Stationary Supplies – School Haul – Back To School

Hi…

Welcome back 😘

Please hit the ‘follow’ button if you haven’t already 😘

Today I’m gonna share what I bought for the kid’s school stationary supplies. I bought it at a traditional stationary store coz it’s cheaper. If I bought it from a bookstore in a mall, I would have spent more.

These are what I got.

I don’t need to buy books coz the kids still have used books with empty pages. Lots of them. So we’re gonna reuse them.

2 packs of loose leaf binder papers for my mom binder and Abe’s tutor binder. It is 9k/pack.

10 tubes of glue for the kids arts and crafts. 43.500/10pcs.

Book covers. I have boys. You know how reckless they are. So I need to protect the books from tearing apart before the school year has finished πŸ˜…. The chocolate cover is for Al, 1.500/roll of 10 sheets. The plastic roll is 7k. The big plastic cover is 7k/10sheets. The small plastic cover is 6k/10sheets.

Abe used to be using Joyko Pino Gel Pen, but they don’t have them again. So, I switch to this. Better quality in the same price of 26k/box of 12pcs. I bought 2 boxes.

Pencils for Al. He’s in 3rd grade, still using pencils. It is 8k/box of 12pcs. This brand quality is okay compare to other brand that are way more expensive than this, some are in a price of 35k/box 😨 But the kids are gonna sharpen it over and over again (well, my kids do. They don’t like blunt edge), they’ll spend a lot of pencils in a semester. And I’m not spending more money for pencils.

Glue sticks for arts and crafts. It is 21k/12pcs.

Pencil cases. The kids are having so many things in their pencil cases. Scissor, pen, pencil, eraser, etc. They need a not too big case, but still can accommodate their need. It is 6k/case.

I still have lots of erasers, so we’re gonna use them. Save money from reusing what can be reuse and check your supplies so you don’t buy the same things πŸ˜‰

I hope this can inspire you in preparing the kid’s school supplies. Time goes by, without you noticing it, it’s time to be back to school and you haven’t prepare 😨 You’ll definitely end up paying more, coz all the discounts are gone πŸ˜”
